Why Can't I Open PDFs on Google Chrome?
There is currently a known issue with updated Google Chrome 68 browsers that is causing the attached PDF viewer to crash. If you are experiencing difficulty (e.g., a blank white screen) after opening a PDF on ESL Library from your Google Chrome browser, there are three troubleshooting options that you can try. Please follow the steps below for further support.
Option 1 – Reload the page
Open the PDF you would like to view (Teacher or Student version).
As you start to scroll through the PDF, the screen may turn blank.
Refresh the page (Macs: command + R / PCs: ctrl + shift + R). The PDF should reappear on the screen.
Option 2 – Download the PDF
Right-click on the Teacher or Student PDF button (rather than clicking on the PDF button to open the lesson). Choose Save Link As to select a folder and save the lesson to your computer.
The lesson will now be saved inside of your chosen folder, which you can access to open and view the lesson. Double-click the lesson to open it inside your default viewer.
Option 3 – Access the site from a different web browser
Try using a different web browser than Chrome on your computer to see if you experience the same issue. For example, if you are currently using Chrome, please try Firefox, Safari, Microsoft Edge, or Internet Explorer. Each of these browsers has a different PDF reader installed.
We apologize for the inconvenience this issue may have caused and are working to fix it as soon as possible. Please let us know if you have any problems implementing the options above. We are here to help.
